Grass Cutting to be Reviewed

Overgrown verges

We’re into the second year of getting only six cuts a year to the grass verges and the policy clearly isn’t working.  Our verges are getting ridiculously overgrown, weeds are thriving and there’s an awful mess left after cutting.  Also the Council is struggling to deliver even six cuts due to equipment failure caused by the quantity of growth, bad weather and some staff absenteeism.  This service is now clearly inadequate and must be reviewed with a view to increasing the number of cuts per year.  I therefore welcome the comments of the Senior Manager at today’s Environment Overview Committee that we will have a review later this year!

I am happy to see the reduced mowing of the road verges. Not only does this keep costs down but the reduced mowing leaves wildflowers to grow. This is brilliant!
